  1. Dunstone, Stephen
    Dreamweaver
    Rubriek: Ensemble (4 harps)
Geschikt voor: Lever harp, Pedal harp

Dreamweaver is a fast-flowing mesmeric piece which builds to a climax at the centre then diminishes again to the end.

The dream is woven by the Harp 4 player, who has the honour of being "The Weaver"; the 8-bar motifs in the two "Dreamer" parts twine themselves around each other while the "Sleepwalker" (an easier part) wanders between them.

Although each motif has frequent repetitions, no two 8-bar

    Harpy Ever After
Rubriek: Ensemble (6 harps), Ensemble (3 harps), Ensemble (4 harps), Ensemble (5 harps)
Geschikt voor: Lever harp, Pedal harp

Stephen Dunstone's original composition “Harpy Ever After” is a jazzy, 12-bar blues for six lever or pedal harps. Each part represents one of six intertwining, recurring motifs from “First Tune” (Harp 1), which is very easy, to “Supergroove” (Harp 6), which is fast, varied, and with occasional lever or pedal slides. An extra “motifs only” part includes all the motifs

Mr Pepys' Pavan & Mr Pepys' Pleasure
    Rubriek: Duet
Geschikt voor: Lever harp, Pedal harp

Mr Pepys' Pavan & Mr Pepys' Pleasure (Duet) - in short and extended versions - Two separate parts: Harp 1 & Harp 2.

Mr Pepys' very first Pavan was a simple ensemble that Stephen Dunstone wrote for some of his students as incidental music for a school production about Samuel Pepys. Later a solo version was made, with an accompaniment written. That version was regularly played by two

    Pink Bird
    Rubriek: Ensemble (4 harps)
Geschikt voor: Lever harp, Pedal harp

Pink Bird can be played as written in the score by four players of equal skill (or more) who all take turns playing the different melodies and harmony lines. To simplify it, a player can also repeat only the melody, counter-melody or harmony.

The contents include parts for harps A, B, C, and D, as in the score, as well as separate parts for melody, countermelody, and harmony.

    Snakes Alive
    Rubriek: Ensemble (4 harps)
Geschikt voor: Lever harp, Pedal harp

Snakes Alive is written for a workshop. The idea was to create a really slinky, bluesy piece that was relatively easy to play for not-very-advanced harpists, but still gave all the players something to get their teeth into.

The accompanimental music in all the parts is technically very easy, mostly, though still requires a modicum of concentration, a feel for the swung rhythm, and an ability to click

    The Journey
    Rubriek: Solo
Geschikt voor: Lever harp, Pedal harp

Written in memory of a very talented and sorely-missed friend, who died unexpectedly and far too young in May 2021. His funeral was in the tiny Norman church of St Andrew in Chilcomb, just outside Winchester, and Stephen played this piece to accompany him on his way.

At the ceremony, instead of flowers, donations to the Oxfam Emergency Fund were invited. With that in mind, a minimum of £2 for each copy of

    The Risen Sun
    Rubriek: Ensemble (4 harps)
Geschikt voor: Lever harp, Pedal harp

This arrangement for 4 parts harp ensemble sounds like a jazzy variation / improvisation on the well-known theme of 'House of the Rising Sun'. The piece sounds lik it has 3 parts, but part 1 is split into "Harp 1A" and "Harp 1B". The melody is niftily passed back and forth between the top two parts throughout the piece, effectively making them both Harp 1.

    Tubby's Tango
    Rubriek: Ensemble (4 harps)
Geschikt voor: Lever harp, Pedal harp

Stephen Dunstone's lively and rhythmic "Tubby's Tango" is a four-part piece for an ensemble of lever or pedal harps. The piece sounds even better with the addition of maracas, claves and tambourine.

    Valse Triste
    Rubriek: Ensemble (4 harps)
Geschikt voor: Lever harp, Pedal harp

Harpensemble arrangement with 4 seperate parts. Content: Score and 4 individual parts.

Valse Triste forms an arc, starting quietly with all harps playing the main theme, and building gradually in intensity, volume and speed as three more motifs are added one by one and woven into the texture. It then diminishes from its peak in verse 4 as the motifs are removed in reverse order, the intensity

    Wind Across the Poppy Field
    Rubriek: Ensemble (3 harps)
Geschikt voor: Lever harp, Pedal harp

Wind Across The Poppy Field was written for a pedal harp trio, but although all players have to switch between D♮ and D# numerous times in multiple octaves, it is possible for lever harpists to manage all the necessary changes, with a little planning. As I’ve included quite a few 6th octave Bs, and the very final notes for Harps 1 and 2 are 1st octave Bs, a lever harp with an extended range is an advantage.
