Autumn Leaves
This melody is known as one of the great jazz standards. A sad song about a love lost after the end of summer, when the dead leaves fall.
Les feuilles mortes (The dead leaves) is a popular French chanson sung by many artists. It is also one of the first jazz standards new jazz musicians learn to play.
In 1949 the American songwriter Johnny Mercer made an English translation called Autumn Leaves. Autumn Leaves has become an icon for both jazz and pop music in both languages.
Known from sevelar films and sung by Frank Sinatra, Eva Cassidy, Eartha Kitt, Barbra Streisand, Miles Davis, Erroll Garner, Marlene Dietrich, Juliette Gréco, Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour and Bob Dylan.
