Introduction

The Harp shop De Zingende Snaar is located in a stunning showroom, perfectly suited to the atmosphere of the harp. Originally built in 1937 as an emergency church (following the devastating fire of the 'Cunera' church in 1934), services were held in the building until 1950, when it was then repurposed as a community and events venue. Since 2017 our shop has been located in these beautiful surrounds. With enough space for all our harps (and also for concerts and workshops) the showroom is a warm and welcoming environment, with original stained-glass windows and free parking at the front.

In our shop you are free to try out harps from different harp builders, in all sizes and price ranges. We represent many brands like Lyon&Healy, Salvi, Dusty Strings, Pepe Weissgerber,Killarney, Hummingbird and Delta. Pedal harps, lever harps and hammered dulcimers - you can find it all at Harpwinkel De Zingende Snaar! We always carry a stock of around 50 harps – plenty of choice. We are happy to advise and are able to tell you about the differences between the harps we stock: size, weight, material, price and strings. Come and be inspired by our beautiful harps, whilst enjoying a cup of tea or coffee provided by us.

Because we want to do our best to help everyone find their perfect harp and benefit from our expertise, we recommend customers to book appointments of around one and a half hours. Want to make an appointment?

Who are we?

Our team consists of a group of enthusiastic harpists. First up we have Jeanette van Nieulande, the owner and founder of the business. For her, the shop has become a pleasant hobby that got out of hand. It started when she was looking for a harp for herself….what a search can lead to. We also have Marielle Schreurs, who is known for editing the Harp Magazine of the Harp Vereniging Nederland. And finally, Janneke Oostveen strengthens our team. A very enthusiastic hobby harpist, she prefers to play harps all day long.

Harp lessons in the shop

Harp lessons are also given in our store. Every week, on Tuesday afternoons, Marjan de Haer teaches harpists of all ages. Frouke Leeuwendal comes once every two weeks on a Wednesday afternoon. Rachel Hair, a Scottish harpist from Glasgow, comes to Rhenen about 8 times a year on Friday and Saturday to teach. She teaches according to Scottish tradition, where tunes are learned by ear.

Harp teachers

Here you will find an overview of harp teachers in the Netherlands and Belgium. If you are also a harp teacher and your name is not yet on this list, please send an email with your details and a clear, useful photo to info@ZingendeSnaar.nl.

Harp maintenance

Every harp needs maintenance. That is why we regularly have harp repairers in the shop to maintain and, if necessary, repair your harp. We see Jos van Zaane from Kampen almost every week these days. He checks lever harps of all brands and can also help you with your pedal harp. About three times a year Davide Rosso from Italy comes to our shop to overhaul Salvi and Lyon&Healy lever and pedal harps. Do you want to know when the harp repairmen are present? Then read on here. Making an appointment is necessary.
