Marcel Lucien Tournier (1879--1951) was a French harpist, composer, and pedagogue who composed important solo repertory for the harp that expanded the technical and harmonic possibilities of the instrument. Marcel Tourmier grew up in a musical family. He had lessons in piano and music theory at the Paris Conservatory. At the age of 16 he chose for the harp and had lessons from Alphonse Hasselmans. After receiving several important harp prices Gabriel Fauré chose him to follow up Hasselmans, proposed by Henriette Renié. He gave lessons at the Conservatory of Paris until 1948.
Marcel Tournier composed many works for orchestra, piano, violin, cello, vocal music, ballet. But he primarily devoted his works to the harp, and combinations of harp and voice, flute, violin, cello, or string quartet.
