Etude de concert (Au Matin)
This famous miniature for harp is brilliantly written for the harp by one of the historically great figures in the history of the instrument.
This Concert Etude "To Morning" consists of four minutes of the most characteristic writing for harp, with flowing arpeggios and other familiar effects. Beginning with hushed sounds, it grows in intensity and brilliance in a shape obviously designed to represent the hours of morning twilight through full brightness. At the end, the harp rings out in its full strength, including rich rolled chords with the instrument's impressive (though often overlooked) bass tones. There is nothing complex about it, nor does it reflect any of the musical experimentation that was going on in the music world in 1925, especially in Paris. In other words, the style of the music is richly Romantic rather than "modern." But it is a lovely work, and one that is often played on harp recitals. 8 pages.
