Harpa Mundi 16 - Carolan's Maggot
Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738)
The music of this fourth Carolan-edition by Pampuch leads us on a journey of musical discovery. Many of these works are beyond the scope of the then usual song and show the way to small solo sonatas.
Carolan experimented with the then usual compositional techniques: repeating motives, harmonic sequences and counter harmonics dress his incomparable melodies in the colorful robes of the Baroque period.
Carolan was a contemporary of piano playing musicians like Bach, Handel, Vivaldi and Scarlatti. His instrument was the harp, however - so giving us his original Baroque works for the harp, whose melodic spirit root in the Celtic culture.
