The Harpers Connellan (17th and 18th century)
This album is of particular interest in that it pushes a door ajar for us, giving us access to some of the energies of the Gaelic harp tradition during the late 17 and early 18 centuries. The music is composed by the brothers Thomas and William Connellan. Including a comprehensive historical story about the origine of these pieces. The brothers Connellan lived in the turbulent period of the 'Cromwellian'-war around 1650. They were one of the last of an era of an ancient tradition of harpists who learned their music by ear. Later Edward Bunting put some of their pieces on paper, so that the music of the brothers Connellan brothers is still alive. With images of the original manuscripts.
